Climate & Seasons
CLIMATE
Mountain weather is very unpredictable, one minute the sun will be shining, the next could see a sudden heavy rain storm or snowfall. Keeping this in mind, always be prepared for a change in conditions and note that if severe or dangerous weather conditions occur your guide’s decision on any course of action is final, for your own safety and wellbeing.
An average temperature range in Spring (April/May)
Day - approx 32 degrees. Evening - approx 13 degrees
Note: As we trek higher the evening temps will drop to approx 8 degrees or lower (mountain weather is notoriously unpredictable).
NEPAL TREKKING SEASON
Trekking in Nepal can be undertaken throughout the year depending on the region. The year is divided into 4 different seasons in Nepal and each season has its distinct attraction to offer for trekking.
Autumn (Sept-Nov) Autumn is the best season, offering excellent weather and wonderfully clear mountain views. This is the time when you can expect good visibility, the air is fresh and the weather is perfect. The most important Nepalese festivals (Dashain and Tihar) are marked during this season.
Winter (Dec-Feb) This season is noted for occasional snowfalls and the air can be quite cold at higher elevations. Hence it is ideal for trekking at lower elevations, generally below 3000 meters. The trekker will have good clear views on the mountains.
Spring (March-May) Trekking in spring is particularly lovely as the mountain slopes are covered with beautiful and colourful flowers. Rhododendrons are in full bloom and the peaks still have plenty of high snow to enhance your photos. The temperature is quite moderate and the mountain views are excellent.
Summer (June-Aug) This is the favourite season to trek in the rain shadow areas like Upper Mustang, Dolpo and Kailash.
Warning: Raincoats and insect repellents for leeches are required during this period.
